Wellesley Soccer Stays Unbeaten in the NEWMAC; Blue Defeat Coast Guard
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Junior Catherine Caruso (Belmont, MA) took a pass from first year Amanda Young (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) and scored with 7:10 left in regulation as Wellesley soccer remained unbeaten in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 2-1 win over host Coast Guard.
Young opened the scoring just 2:08 into the match with sophomore Jennie Krasker (Newton, MA) assisting giving the Blue a 1-0 lead.
Coast Guard (4-6, 0-3) tied the match in the 34th minute as junior Katie Kurek scored her team leading ninth goal of the season with senior Emma Marr assisting on the tying goal.
Junior Katie Martore (Great Falls, VA) made four saves to record the win in goal for Wellesley (5-2-2, 3-0), which has won all three conference games this season, all by one goal.
Freshman Mary Mills made seven saves for Coast Guard, who was outshot by the Blue, 11-9.
Wellesley is back in action on Saturday hosting NEWMAC foe MIT in a 1:00pm matchup.
