Wellesley Athletes Earn ECAC Postseason Honors
CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) today announced its 2008 Division III All-Star selections. Three Wellesley athletes were honored for their performance during the spring lacrosse and softball seasons. It is the first selection for all three.
Loretta White (Northampton, Mass.) was named a second-team all-star in lacrosse after a standout season for the Blue. An anchor of the Wellesley defense, White led the team with 43 draw controls and 39 ground balls, and finished third on the team with 21 caused turnovers. Lacrosse posted a 10-8 record and finished second in the NEWMAC.
Softball landed two honorees in Jenna Harvey (London, Ontario), who was named Pitcher of the Year and a first-team all-star, and Megan Wood (Jacksonville, Fla.), a second-team all-star. Harvey capped off her spectacular collegiate career this spring with a 17-5 record, 0.81 ERA and 255 strikeouts, and threw four no-hitters. She finished the season ranked second in Division III in strikeouts per seven innings, second in hits allowed per seven innings, and fourth in ERA.
Wood posted a .333 batting average in her sophomore season, led the team in home runs (5) and on-base percentage (.434), and drove in 20 runs. Softball finished the season 30-11-1 and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they finished 3-2 in the New England Regional.
