Wellesley College Swimming & Diving Competes at Camel Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Wellesley College Swimming and Diving team took fourth place at Connecticut College's Camel Invitational this weekend.  Overall, the Blue recorded nine top-five finishes at the two-day event.

Wellesley's Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA) led the Blue with four top-five finishes.  The sophomore took fifth place in the 50-free in a time of 25.77 and also anchored all three Wellesley relay teams that finished fifth or higher.

The Blue also got strong performances from Stephany Xiang (Wellesley, MA) and Hilary Gram (Hopkinton, MA).  Xiang took fifth place in both the 100-Back (in 1:07.00) and in the 200-Back (2:20.79) and was part of a fifth-place relay team.  Gram took fifth in the 100-Fly in  1:04.32, placed fourth in the 200-Fly ina time of 2:20.80 and also swam as part of a fifth-place relay.

Rounding out the top individual performances for Wellesley, Elise Spedden (Clarksville, MD) took fifth place in the 50-Back in a time of 31.53.

In the relay events, Wellesley placed fourth in the 200-Free (1:46.39) and fifth in both the 400-Medley (4:26.75) and the 400-Free (3:58.44). The 200-Free team was made up of Emilie Mitten (Norwalk, CT), Julia Gall (Woodinville, WA), Whitney Smith (Detroit, MI) and Dutton.  Swimming the 400-Medley were Xiang, Erika Buckle (Boxborough, MA), Gram and Dutton while the 400-Free relay team consisted of Laura Weir (Narberth, PA), Gall, Smith and Dutton.

Wellesley Swimming and Diving will continue the 2008-09 season at Wheaton College's Winter Invitational on January 10th.
