Kate SorensonWELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College senior diver Kate Sorenson (Bolton, Mass.) took fourth-place on the 3-meter board at the 2009 NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championship on Wednesday evening.

The senior, who earned honorable mention honors a year ago, finished the event with a total of 462.25 points.   Sorenson placed behind Kelly Sponholz of SUNY Fredonia (491.95), Erica Deur of Calvin (495.85) and Hayley Emerick of Trinity (TX) (467.80). Her fourth-place finish earned her outright All-America status.

Sorenson led a fantastic effort for NEWMAC divers at the meet.  She joined Eileen Garcia of Clark who finished eighth to earn All-America honors, and Springfield's Meghan Kijanka and Michelle Reggio who earned honorable mention All-America with 10th and 11th place finishes.

Sorenson returns to the board on Friday to compete in the 1-meter diving event.
