Kate Sorenson Earns Second All-America Honor at 2009 National Championship

Kate SorensonWELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College senior diver Kate Sorenson (Bolton, Mass.) notched a fourth-place performance on the 1-meter board at the 2009 NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships on Friday evening.

Sorenson earned the second All-America honor of 2009 and the fourth honor in her three-year diving career.  The senior, who earlier in the week finished fourth on the 3-meter board, took fourth on the 1-meter with a final score of 422.20.

In just three years, Sorenson went from a rookie diver to an All-American.  On Wednesday, she became the first women's diver in Division III Championship history to attempt a dive with a degree of difficulty of 3.0.

Sorenson set three Wellesley school records in her career and was the 2009 NEWMAC Diver of the Year after winning both diving events at the conference championship.   As a senior, she went undefeated during the 2008-09 regular season.  Sorenson will graduate in June with a degree in Mathematics.

The 2009 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships concludes tomorrow evening at the University of Minnesota’s University Aquatic Center.
