Wellesley College Swimming & Diving Defeats Roger Williams, Falls to Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wellesley College Swimming and Diving team opened up their 2009-10 dual meet schedule with a win over Roger Williams and a loss to Clark on Saturday afternoon at The Kneller Pool.
Against Roger Williams, the Blue swam to a 153-89 victory. Against Clark, Wellesley fell 137.50-105.50.
Wellesley was paced by fifth-year senior Savanna Johnson (Bloomington, IN), and first-years Katherine Foley (Orono, ME) and Carolyn Jackson (Leesburg, VA), who each recorded an individual win to go along with a relay victory.
Johnson won the 50-free in a time of 25.59 while Foley won the 200-IM in 2:22.16. Wrapping up the individual wins for the Blue, Jackson posted a 2:40.40, winning the 200-breast event, while also finishing second in the 200-IM with a time of 2:23.58.
Johnson, Foley and Jackson also teamed up with first-year Virginia Hung (Plainsboro, NJ) to win the 400-medley relay. The foursome recorded a time of 4:18.27 notching a nine-second victory over the runner-up team from Clark.
Also swimming strong for the Blue were Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA) and Emilie Mitten (Norwalk, CT). Dutton took second in the 200-free in a time of 2:02.73 and also recorded a third-place finish in the 100-free in 57.38. Mitten recorded a pair of third-place finishes on the day, swimming a 5:42.51 in the 500-free and a 11:43.86 in the 1000-free.
Rounding out the action for Wellesley, Dutton teamed up with Laura Weir (Narberth, PA), Tara Siegel (Sacramento, CA) and Julia Gall (Woodinville, WA) to record a second place finish in the 200-free relay, in a time of 1:49.10.
The Blue are back at it on Wednesday, hosting a dual meet against MIT at 7:00pm at Chandler Pool.
