Wellesley College Swimming & Diving Falls to Tufts

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley Swimming and Diving lost a dual meet to a tough squad from Tufts University in Chandler Pool on Wednesday evening. The Jumbos came away with a 166-123 win, dropping the Blue's dual meet record to 2-3.

Wellesley notched two victories at the meet, with fifth-year senior Savanna Johnson (Bloomington, IN) and junior Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA) recording wins. Johnson won the 50-free in a time of 25.50, besting her nearest competitor by .65, while Dutton took home the 100-free in a time of 57.28.

Wellesley also had strong performances from Katherine Foley (Orono, ME), Hilary Gram (Hopkinton, MA), Carolyn Jackson (Leesburg, VA) and Virginia Hung (Plainsboro, NJ). Foley took second place in the 100-back (1:05.90 ), as well as the 200-back (2:22.77), and also notched a time of 2:21.40 in the 200 IM. Gram recorded second-place finishes in the 200-fly (2:22.00) and the 200-breast (2:39.91), while also placing third in the 100-fly in 1:05.37. Rounding out the swimming action, Jackson took second in the 100-breast (1:12.46) and Hung took second in the 100-fly (1:03.39).

Kathryn Goffin (Falmouth, ME) was Wellesley's top diver, notching scores of 170.26 on the 1-meter and 174.53 on the 3-meter board. Also for the Blue, Hannah Friedman (Boulder, CO) scored a 152.55 in the 3-meter event.

Wellesley is back in action at the Pioneer Valley Invitational at Mount Holyoke on Saturday at 10:00am.
