Wellesley Tennis Falls to Dartmouth; Watanabe/Cheng Notch Win
HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's tennis team won its third straight match downing Wellesley College 7-0 this afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion. The match marked the return of former Big Green assistant, Brian Kuscher, who is in his first year as Wellesley's head coach. Dartmouth moves to 4-6 on the spring season, while Wellesley is 0-1, with an overall record of 9-3 for 2008-09.
Dartmouth won the doubles point, getting wins at No. 1 from junior Jesse Adler and first-year Carissa King, and at No. 3 from junior Carley Markovitz and tri-captain Jamie Caplan. Wellesley took second doubles with the team of Marie Watanabe (Houston, TX) and Grace Cheng (Columbia, MD) picking up their second win over a Division-I opponent this season.
In the singles matches, Dartmouth sophomore Molly Scott recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1. Junior Mary Beth Winingham won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while sophomore Ryan Reichel dropped just one game at No. 3. King didn't lose a game at No. 4 singles, and sophomore Ashley Mitchell won at No. 5. Freshman Shelley Carpeni also picked up a win at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Dartmouth squares off against Temple tomorrow at 9 a.m. Wellesley returns to action on their Spring Break trip, playing Middlebury on March 24th.
