Wellesley Tennis Drops to Emory, 8-1
Atlanta, GA –Playing short handed for the second straight match without Senior Co-Captain Jennifer Schwarzkopf, the Wellesley Blue showed a lot of heart, but fell short today 8-1 against Emory. This was The Blue's second and final match of the Fab 5 invitational tournament held each year for the nations best Division 3 tennis teams.
Wellesley got off to a great start in the doubles, led by the victory of Junior Mohona Siddique and Sophomore Jacquline Shen at number 2. The tandem of Meghan Stubblebine and Katie Ching also played very well, but fell just short 8-5. First years Marie Watanabe and Grace Cheng, were leading 4-3 over the number 2 team in the country of Nash and Rodgers, before falling victim 8-4.
In singles action, the blue played strong in every match, but fell short in all six. The Blue next travel to Vassar on Friday to play in the Seven Sister's tournament where we look to defend our title once again. Matches begin Saturday at 9 am.
We want to thank Parents Alanna and Kevin Stubblebine for graciously hosting us one night for dinner in their beautiful home, and for rooting us on in both matches this week. In addition we would also like to thank Parents, Nozumi and Rik Watanabe for flying in from Houston to spend time cheering and supporting us during this week. We all enjoyed a wonderful dinner at a Japanese steakhouse to say our good bye's until their next visit.
Wellesley takes the court again this weekend, when they travel to Vassar for the Seven Sisters Tournament.
