Results

AMHERST, Mass. – Three players represented the Wellesley College tennis team at the the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) this weekend.

Wellesley was represented by Stephanie Chu (Hilo, HI), Elena Bowen (Yardley, PA) and Mariya Chokova (Kazanlak, Bulgaria). Chu and Bowen paired up as Wellesley's #1 team in the "B" draw while Chokova partnered with a player from Curry in the pairs tournament.

Each team played one doubles match against their opponents and then two singles matches.  The pair that took two out of three matches advanced to the next round.

On day one, Chu and Bowen fell 3-0 to their competition from Trinity, while Chokova fell in her match against Colby.

Wellesley players rebound on day two, as Chu and Bowen each won their singles matches, and then combined to win doubles to defeat Curry's Jessica Spinale and Kate Johnson, 3-0.   Chokova picked up a win in her singles match on day two, but fell in doubles.

Wellesley tennis next competes at the 2009 NEWMAC Championships hosted by MIT. As the #2 seed, the Blue received a bye into Sunday's semifinal round beginning at 9:30am.
