Wellesley Volleyball Invitational - Day One Results

University of Michigan-Dearborn used its height and power to cruise to a 3-0 win over Bridgewater State on the opening game of the Wellesley Volleyball Invitational. The Wolves, now 18-12 overall, defeated the Bears (10-12) in three games (30-17, 30-14, 30-19). Michigan-Dearborn was led by senior outside hitter Jamie Wazniak and Sophomore middle blocker Candace McPherson, with 10 and 8 kills, respectively. Senior setter Renee Laidler dished out 20 assists in the win while junior Kelly Dankert recorded nine digs and senior Kristi Igo had seven blocks. Bridgewater State was led at the net by senior middle hitter Kesley Collasius who notched eight kills and three blocks. First-year Marissa Pita tallied 10 digs in the loss while junior Alexis Corazzini added eight of her own. Senior setter Erica Kelly paced the Bears' offense with 18 assists.

Wellesley got off to a slow start in game one, but battled back to take three straight games and defeat University of Michigan-Dearborn 3-1 (28-30, 30-22, 30-22, 30-12). The Blue, riding a 12-match winning streak, are now 18-3 on the season. The Wolves drop to 18-13. Michigan-Dearborn was led by outside hitter Courtney Provencher, with 12 kills, while Renee Laidler tallied 35 assists. Kristi Igo added four blocks, and Chelsea McCune chipped in 18 digs. Wellesley had four players with double-digit kills. Alice Cummings led the pack with 15, Murielle Dawdy and Tracy Waldman added 13 a piece, and Lauren Rasmussen chipped in 11. Billie Briones and Victoria Peng shared setting duties, with 34 and 22 assists, respectively, while Emily Peters added 16 digs in the win.
