Wellesley Sweeps WPI, 3-0
Worcester, MA ---- Madeleine Brumley (Lafayette, LA) and Jessica Duff (Milton, Abington, UK) each registered 10 kills to help Wellesley defeat host WPI 3-0 (30-25, 20-25, 30-17) in NEWMAC conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon. The Blue improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the NEWMAC while WPI slips to 3-9 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
Wellesley also received eight kills apiece from Tracy Waldman (Seattle, WA) and Arcadia Paine (Durango, CO) while setter Victoria Peng (Diamond Bar, CA) dished out 28 assists on the afternoon. Lauren Rasmussen (Bonita, CA) notched four aces while Brumley tallied a team-best eight digs for the Blue.
Senior Kate Woodman (Fairfield, CT) paced the WPI offensive attack with 12 kills in 28 attempts. She amassed just two errors on the night en route to posting a .357 hitting percentage. Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) added eight kills while setter Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) recorded 22 assists. Croteau tallied a team-best 13 digs for the Engineers while Woodman and Holmberg each chipped in with eight.
Both teams are back in action with a NEWMAC match at 7pm on Tuesday. WPI will travel to Cambridge to face MIT while Wellesley closes out a string of three-straight conference road matches when they play at Mount Holyoke.
