Wellesley Sweeps Smith in Regular Season Finale
Northampton, Mass. – Wellesley Volleyball closed its regular season Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-19) sweep at Smith College.
The win lifts Wellesley to 24-6 on the season and 8-1 in conference play. Smith drops to 12-19 overall and 5-4 in NEWMAC competition.
Courtney Parker (Berlin, Md.), Mikal Minarich (Hobart, Ind.), and Bethany Weiss (Windham, N.H.) led the Pioneers at the net with four kills each. Parker and Weiss also tallied three blocks a piece. Courtney Faria (Bourne, Mass.) and Lauren Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz.) split the setting duties, recording eight and seven assists respectively.
Jessica Duff (Milton, Abingdon, UK) and Alice Cummings (Tallahassee, Fla.) led the Blue offense with 10 and nine kills, followed by Heather Mellquist (Baltimore, Ohio) with five. Amanda Duritsch (Troy, Ohio) chipped in three kills and three blocks. Emily Peters (Temescal Valley, Calif.) led all players with 18 digs, while Victoria Peng (Diamond Bar, Calif.) distributed 35 assists in the win.
Wellesley will host Wheaton in the quarterfinals of the NEWMAC tournament on Tuesday, November 4. Smith will travel to Coast Guard on Tuesday for its quarterfinal match-up.
