Wellesley Volleyball Goes 2-0 on Day One of Seven Sisters Championship

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Wellesley College volleyball team opened play at the 2009 Seven Sisters Tournament held on Saturday at Smith College. The Blue (13-5) went 2-0 on the day, posting wins over Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr.

Wellesley started the day with a convincing 3-0 victory over Mount Holyoke, with set scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-7 (Box score). The Blue were led by first-years Isabel Custodio (Powell, OH) and Elizabeth Campbell (Solona Beach, CA) with totals of 11 and eight kills. Also for the Blue, Madeleine Brumley (Lafayette, LA) recorded five kills to go along with eight service aces, while Victoria Peng (Diamond Bar, CA) notched 18 assists.

In the second match of the day, Wellesley took a 3-0 game against Bryn Mawr, 25-8, 25-16, 25-9 (Box score). Campbell led the Blue with 14 kills while Custodio notched 12 kills and 12 digs. Peng picked up 27 assists to round out the stat leaders for the Blue.

Seven Sisters action continues tomorrow morning with consolation rounds at 11:00am. With a 2-0 record on day on, Wellesley will play for the Championship against Vassar College at 1:00pm.
