Custodio Named NEWMAC Player of the Week
WELLESLEY, Mass. –Wellesley College sophomore Isabel Custodio (Powell, OH) was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending September 25, 2010.
A setter/hitter in Wellesley's 6-2 offense, Custodio helped the Blue to a 4-1 week, including wins over three regionally-ranked opponents. She opened her week with a .412 hitting performance (7 kills, 0 errors, 17 attempts) and 13 assists in a 3-0 sweep of NEMAC rival MIT on Tuesday night. She then helped lead the Blue to a second-place finish at the MIT Invitational, earning all-tournament honors as she racked up 75 assists, 47 kills (.349), 34 digs, and five blocks for the weekend. She also notched a rare triple-double in Friday's win over Connecticut College, when she tallied 13 kills (.500), 19 assists, and ten digs in the five-set win. For the week, Custodio recorded 88 assists, 38 digs, six blocks, and four aces to go along with 54 kills on 123 attempts with only 10 errors, for a blistering .358 hitting average.
Wellesley currently stands at 7-3 overall, 3-0 in NEWMAC competition. The Blue travel to Mount Holyoke on Tuesday evening for a 7:00pm match up.
