Wellesley Golf Notches Two Second Place Finishes in Weekend Action

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College golf team recored a pair of second place finishes in Western Massachusetts this weekend. The Blue notched a runner-up finish at Friday's Massachusetts State Invitational and then followed it up with second place at the two-day Jack Leaman Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
At the Massachusett's State Invite, held at the par-72 (5,840 yards) Orchards Golf Club, Wellesley's Kim Eaton (Shepherdstown, WV) tied for the top spot, shooting a round of 80 during regulation play. The junior was narrowly edged out by Amherst's Elizabeth Monty in the fourth playoff hole.
Amherst took the team title, recording a score of 333, followed in the final standings by Wellesley (346), Mount Holyoke (376) and Westfield State College (441).
Individually, Eaton led the Blue with her 80, while the rest of the Blue also notched solid performances. First-years Cassandra Tavolarella (Vero Beach, FL) and Michelle Cho (La Crescenta, CA) tied for eighth place overall, with matching scores of 88. Rounding out the tournament for the Blue, senior Soumya Srinagesh (Palo Alto, CA) carded a 90, while sophomore Alexis Kelleher (Worcester, MA) finished with a 91.
At Hickory Ridge Country Club for the Jack Leaman Invitational, Wellesley's Cassandra Tavolarella recorded the highest finish of her career, finishing in a tie for third place overall. The rookie recorded a two-day total of 162 (81-81).
After heading into day two tied with Amherst, the Lord Jeffs once again edged out the Blue for the title. Amherst finished with a two-day score of 659 to pull away from Wellesley (669) and third-place Williams (673). Eleven total schools participated in the tournament.
After Tavolarella, the Blue were paced by Kim Eaton who notched a second-round score of 79 to finish one stroke out of third-place with a 163 (84-79). Alexis Kelleher finished tied for 21st with a 171 (81-90), while Michelle Cho had an excellent second round, shooting a season-low of 83 to finish with a 176 (93-83). Rounding out the individual scores for the Blue, Soumya Srinagesh ended the tournament with a 181 (90-91).
The Blue are back in action on April 24th and 25th competing in the 2010 Williams Spring Invitational.
