HANOVER, N.H. -- Led by three-time All-American, Kim Eaton (Shepherdstown, WV), the Wellesley College golf team opened the 2010-11 season with a ninth-place finish at the Dartmouth Invitational. The tournament was held on the par-72, 5,807-yard Hanover Country Club course and featured 22 competing schools.
Eaton tied for top honors in the two-day event, before narrowly falling in a playoff to medalist, Stephanie Hu of Boston College. Eaton and Hu record matching rounds of 74 and 74 to finish +4 (148) in a field of 230 golfers.
As a team, the Blue finished in ninth place overall, and second amongst Division-III teams. Wellesley recorded a team score of 663 (340-323), just five strokes behind Williams (658), the only other Division III team in the top ten. Boston College won the overall title, with a two-day score of 611.
Individually, the Blue got a 42nd place finish from junior Alexis Kelleher (Worcester, MA), who shot rounds of 79 and 87. Making her collegiate debut, first-year Alexandra Fuiks (Brookfield, WI) tied for 87th, shooting rounds of 90 and 87 (190). Rounding out the individual performances, Michelle Cho (La Crescenta, CA) shot a 190 with rounds of 97 and 93, while Cassandra Tavolarella (Vero Beach, FL) rebounded from a disqualification in round one, with a spectacular 75 in round two.
The Blue are back in action next Saturday at the Mount Holyoke Invitational.
