10th-Ranked Bowdoin Defeats Wellesley Lacrosse

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Wellesley College lacrosse team dropped a 17-3 contest to 10th-ranked Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine on Thursday evening.  The loss sets Wellesley's record to 5-3 on the season, while the Polar Bears improve to 6-2 overall.

Bowdoin scored a quick two goals to open the contest before Wellesley's Haley Geller (Berkeley, CA) scored unassisted to cut the lead to 2-1.  The Polar Bears poured on the offense over the next 12 minutes of the half, going on a 7-0 run to take a 9-1 lead with ten minutes to play.  Neither team could connect with the goal over the next nine minutes, until Wellesley's Jenny Holland (Bethesda, MD) scored on an assist from Kate Cushing (Danvers, MA) with 1:46 left in the half.  Bowdoin then answered with a goal with three seconds to play and Wellesley trailed 10-2 at the break. 

The second half belonged to Bowdoin as the Polar Bears scored seven more goals. Wellesley added a third goal when captain Amber Evans (Worthington, OH) converted on a free position shot but the game ended 17-3 in favor of Bowdoin.

Wellesley is back in action on Saturday, April 5th on the road at Smith College for a 11:30am start.
