Wellesley Lacrosse Defeats Endicott College 14-12

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Wellesley College lacrosse team picked up a big come-from-behind win on the road at Endicott on Thursday evening.  The Blue downed the Gulls 14-12 at Endicott Stadium in Beverly, Mass.

Endicott got off to a fast start in the first half, as junior Molly Moss scored the games first two goals, with Sarah Gunter and Kellie Cunningham each delivering an assist. Endicott would go up by a score of 4-0 after goals from Gunter and Cunningham.

The Blue would finally breakthrough seven minutes into the game with a goal from sophomore Colette Whitaker (Great Falls, Va.) to cut the EC lead to 4-1.

Just 12 seconds later the Gulls regained their four-goal lead, as junior Alex Pearce took a pass from Cunningham and found the back of the net.

Wellesley responded, going on a 3-0 run with goals from Amber Evans (Worthington, Ohio), Haley Geller (Berkeley, Calif.), and Caitlin Meeker (Columbia, Md.).  The Blue had now cut the EC lead down to 5-4.

The Gulls pushed back, as senior Emily Judd and sophomore Kristen Micho both scored to extend the lead to 7-4.

From there, the two teams traded goals and eventually went into the half with Endicott leading by a score of 9-6.

The Gulls received goals from sophomore Valerie Feldman and freshman Kellie Cunningham to start the second half, helping Endicott hold on to their three goal lead with the score 11-8.

It was a different game from that point on, as the Blue dominated the rest of the half. They won nine of 12 draw controls in the period, while out shooting the Gulls 16-7. Wellesley went on a 6-1 run to close the game, winning by a final score of 14-12.

The Gulls were led by Alex Pearce, who had three goals and two draw controls. Valerie Feldman also contributed two goals and an assist in the loss.

Whitaker and Geller both stood-out for the Blue, scoring four goals a piece. Sophomore Molly Morrow (Bow, N.H./Bow) also had three goals, including the game-winner, while also adding an assist in the win.

The loss drops the Gulls to 3-2 on the season, while the Blue improve to 3-1 overall. Wellesley will play at home against the University of New England on Saturday. Endicott will return to action on Tuesday when they host Colby Sawyer at Endicott Stadium in Beverly, Mass. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
