Roberge Scores Five Times as Wellesley Lacrosse Downs Mount St. Vincent

WELLESLEY, MA – First-year Briana Roberge (Bow, NH) netted five goals and added an assist as the Wellesley College lacrosse team defeated the College of Mount St. Vincent 20-8 on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Blue to 2-1 on the season while the Dolphins fall to 1-3.

Wellesley took an early 3-0 lead on goals from Caitlin Meeker (Columbia, MD), Haley Geller (Berkeley, CA), and Amber Evans (Worthington, OH).  However, Mount St. Vincent answered back with a goal from Cyndi Adams at the 25-minute mark that narrowed the Wellesley lead to 3-1.

After the Dolphins score, Wellesley netted four straight goals to extend the lead to 7-1.  Evans scored twice in the run while Meeker and Colette Whitaker (Great Falls, VA) each added a goal.

Mount St. Vincent's Chanel Comis picked up a goal at 19:24 to cut the lead to 7-2, but the Blue answered with a score from Molly Morrow (Bow, NH) to take an 8-2 lead with 18 minutes remaining in the half.  The Dolphins added a goal from Jessie Mitchell at 15:23, but Wellesley went on a 7-2 run to close the half with a 15-5 advantage.

In the second half,  Roberge needed just :20 seconds to pick up her fifth goal of the game, the second of the day off of a pass from high school teammate Morrow. Wellesley kept the pressure on, holding the Dolphins to three goals in the second half, and took the game 20-8.

Roberge led all scorers with six points (5 goals, 1 assist) while Meeker picked up five points off of three goals and two assists.  Geller, Whitaker and Evans all finished with three goals each while Morrow, Loretta White (Northampton, MA) and Jenny Holland (Bethesda, MD) each added a score.  Morrow also picked up two assists while White added one.

Defensively, Geller led the team with seven draw controls and four caused turnovers while Alexis Fischer (Orinda, CA) and White each added four draw controls. 

Kristin Jaroncyzk (Manhasset, NY) picked up three saves in the first half of play, while Mary Mattia (Atlanta, GA) made her collegiate debut with four saves and a ground ball in the second half. 

Mount St. Vincent was led by Kelly Martin who scored three times while Chanel Comis added two goals.  Jackie Horn saw the majority of the action in net, picking up 10 saves.

Wellesley will next travel to Endicott on Thursday, March 20th for a 4:30pm game.  Mount St. Vincent will next play FDU-Florham on March 27th at 7:00pm.
