Holland, Roy Lead Wellesley Lax Past the University of New England

PORTLAND, Maine - Sophomore Jenny Holland (Bethesda, Md.) and first-year Meredith Roy (Merrimack, N.H.) each tallied five goals to lead Wellesley College to a 20-3 victory over the University of New England in women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field on the campus of Deering High School.

The Blue recovered from a 20-3 setback to nationally-ranked Tufts University on Wednesday to improve to 2-1, while the Nor'easters are winless in three starts.

After sophomore Danielle Cate (Boscawen, N.H.) scored to give UNE an early 1-0 lead, Wellesley seized control of the match by tallying 12 consecutive goals. Holland and Roy each scored three times during the barrage, and sophomore Briana Roberge (Bow, N.H.) added a pair of goals.

UNE junior Mallory Long (Lewiston, Maine) notched an unassisted goal 1:40 before halftime to make the score 12-2.

Sophomore Angel Jarmusz (Naperville, Ill.) opened the second-half scoring for UNE, but the Blue held the Nor'easters scoreless over the final 28:26 while netting the final eight goals.

Holland and Roy dished out two assists apiece to rack up seven-point games, and Roberge finished with a total of three goals. Junior Molly Morrow (Bow, N.H.) scored twice and set up four other goals.

Sophomore Mary Mattia (Atlanta, Ga.) made five saves to record the win for Wellesley. Sophomore Tara Geraghty (Barrington, R.I.) stopped eight shots for UNE.

The Blue return to action Thursday when they host Bridgewater State College at 4:00 p.m. UNE heads to Lewiston on Tuesday for a 5:00 p.m. contest at Bates College.
