Wellesley's Nicole Labbee Named NEWMAC Player of the Week

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College junior Nicole Labbee (Florence, MA) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Lacrosse Player of the Week for the period ending April 25, 2010.Nicole Labbee

Nicole anchored a defense that led the Blue to a 2-0 mark against NEWMAC teams this week. The junior was Wellesley's top defender against MIT and Wheaton, as the Blue held opponents to totals of eight and seven goals, while also forcing 25 turnovers.

In an 11-8 Wellesley win over Wheaton, Labbee caused four turnovers as the Blue held the Lyons to just four goals in each half. In Wellesley's 14-7 victory over MIT, she posted five caused turnovers with five ground balls, holding the Engineers to only three second-half goals.

Labbee currently ranks first on the Blue with 39 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers.  She also leads the NEWMAC in caused turnovers per game.

The Wellesley lacrosse team holds a 6-9 record and finished the NEWMAC regular season with a 3-3 ledger.  The Blue earned the number-four seed in the upcoming playoffs and will host fifth-seeded MIT on Wednesday at 4:30pm.
