Potent Offensive Powers Wellesley Lacrosse Past Smith

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Jenny Holland (Bethesda, MD) and Allison Robbins (North Bennington, VT) combined for 11 goals to lead the Wellesley College lacrosse team to a 20-3 victory over New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Smith College. The Blue open NEWMAC play 1-1 and run their season record to 3-6, while Smith drops to 3-5, 0-1 in the NEWMAC.

Holland finished with six goals and two assists for a total of eight points, while Robbins added a career-high five goals and one assist for six points, as Wellesley unleashed an all-out attack on the Smith cage.

The Blue opened the game scoring the first seven goals, including two each from Holland and Robbins. Smith got on the board at 15:31, but Wellesley powered back with five straight scores to open up a 12-1 advantage. The teams then traded goals, and the Blue took a 13-2 lead into the break.

The second period was much like the first, as Wellesley tallied seven out of the eight goals scored to cement the 20-3 victory.

Aside from Holland and Robbins, the Blue got three goals and one assist from Caitlin Meeker (Columbia, MD) and three assists and one goal from Loretta White (Northampton, MA). Also pacing the Wellesley offense were Meagan Fuchs (Portland, OR) and Molly Morrow (Bow, NH) who each posted a goal and two assists, while Kate Cushing (Danvers, MA), Elizabeth Clemetson (Freeport, ME) and Elin Nelson (Vineyard Haven, MA) all tallied one goal each.

Defensively, Kayla Bolton (Beverly Hills, MI), Nicole Labbee (Florence, MA) and Fuchs each picked up four ground balls, while Labbee, Bolton and White all caused two turnovers. White also picked up three draw controls.

For Smith, Carolyn Whiting (South Orange, NJ), Bethany McGann (Arlington, VA) and Mary Pasini (Columbus, OH) each recorded solo scores, while Meaghan Fileti (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) picked up an assist. The Pioneers out-drew Wellesley, holding a 14-10 advantage. They were backed by Sofia Nakhnikian-Weintraub (Eugene, OR) who tallied four draw controls, while Kaitlyn Murdough (Hinsdale, NH), Fileti, and Alexandra Page (Brookline, MA) added two each. Murdough also picked up four ground balls, while Whiting added three.
