Wellesley's Grundlock Named NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College junior pitcher Barbarajean Grundlock (Blackwood, N.J.) was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 30, 2008.
Grundlock was impressive in a 7-3 week for Wellesley, compiling a 3-0 mark and a miniscule 0.73 ERA. With five appearances, Grundlock made two starts, throwing complete games in both and coming in as a reliever three times, allowing only one run.
Against Elmhurst College, she tossed a seven-inning three-hitter while striking out eight batters. Against Williams, Grundlock threw a complete game, again allowing only three hits while giving Wellesley the 4-2 win.
As a relief pitcher, Grundlock made her mark with 14.2 innings in three appearances while giving up only five total hits. She also picked up a win in relief, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings against Whitworth College while allowing no runs and only one hit.
For the week, Grundlock threw 28.2 innings, while giving up just three runs. In five appearances, opponents hit only .115 against the junior hurler.
Wellesley softball returns to action on Wednesday, April 2, at 3:30, when the team travels across town to Babson College for a NEWMAC double-header.
