Wellesley Softball Lands Four on NCAA All-Tournament Team

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College landed four softball players on the NCAA New England Regional All-Tournament team.  The four representatives for the Blue were seniors Alexandria Coari (Geneva, Ill.) and Jenna Harvey (London, Ontario), junior Amanda Tai (Melrose, Mass.), and sophomore Ilana Orloff (Weston, Mass.).

Coari was selected at the shortstop position after a fantastic tournament where she hit .545.  She also racked up three runs and three RBI and led the Blue in the tournament with a .615 on base percentage.  Coari finished her senior year as the Wellesley all-time leader in sacrifice hits with 35 and holds the single season record with 15 in 2007.  She is also second on the career list in games played (138) and stolen bases (16) and is third in runs scored (52) and hits (96).

Tai earns All-Tournament honors at third base and was also an All-Conference and All-Region selection this season.  At the NCAA Tournament, she picked up four hits including a double and also drove in four runs.  Tai finished the season with a team-leading .351 batting average with 12 runs batted in and seven stolen bases.  During post-season play this year (NEWMAC, NCAA), she drove in a team-high six runs.

Orloff was selected as one of three outfielders on the All-Tournament team.  During NCAA play, she hit .353 with three runs and an RBI.  Orloff was Wellesley's most consistent hitter this post-season, batting .379 with 11 hits and three RBI in nine NEWMAC and NCAA games.  On the year, she hit .327, lead Wellesley with 14 sacrifice hits and also picked up five stolen bases.

Harvey was named the All-Tournament designated hitter/utility player.  On the mound she went 1-2 in the tournament with a 2.83 ERA and 17 strikeouts.  At the plate, she hit an even .500 with one homerun and a team-high five runs batted in.  A two-time national All-America selection, Harvey holds Wellesley career records with 48 wins, 741 strikeouts, 473 innings pitched, 10.97 strikeouts per game and an opposing batting average of .156.  She's also thrown six no-hitters during her career, including one perfect game.  In the batter's box, Harvey is second all-time in hits (118) and runs batted in (79) and has the fourth highest career batting average (.308) in Wellesley history.

Wellesley softball finished its season with a school record 30 wins and ranked #22 in Division III. The Blue finished as the NEWMAC Tournament Runner-Up after winning the regular season title with a 13-3 conference mark.  In the NCAA tournament, Wellesley picked up wins over Lesley, Rivier and Bridgewater State but fell to Tufts and regional champion Rhode Island College.
