Wellesley Squash Wins "E" Division at Howe Cup National Championships
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Wellesley College squash team ended the 2009-10 season by winning the "E" division at the Howe Cup National Championships at Yale University. Wellesley went 3-0 to sweep the division.
The Blue kicked things off with a 9-0 victory over Drexel University on Friday and continued to roll with a a 7-2 win over the University of Rochester on Saturday. In the deciding match on Sunday, Wellesley posted a 9-0 sweep over Notre Dame to take the title.
Wellesley was unbeaten in the top two flights, as senior captain Ashley Stevens (East Harwich, MA) and senior Laura Weyl (Los Altos, CA) combined for a 6-0 record on the weekend. At three and four, Wellesley's Ally Ewing (Philadelphia, PA) and Cara Kaufman (New Canaan, CT) each posted 2-1 records. Jess Whitley (Yeadon, PA) and Margo Sulemont (Westfield, NJ) posted identical 3-0 legers in the five and six spots, while the Blue also went undefeated at seven, eight and nine. Lauren Dow (Bethlehem, PA), Rachel Amrhein (Kendall Park, NJ) and Emaline Surgenor (Dover, MA) all went 3-0. In the exhibition matches, Jen Hsu (Shanghai, China) took two of three.
Blue squash finished the season with a #33 raking in the country.
