Wellesley Squash Drops 6-3 Decision to Northeastern
WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College squash team dropped a hard-fought 6-3 decision to Northeastern University on Friday evening at Dana Hall School in Wellesley. The loss drops the Blue to 0-2 to start the season, while Northeastern picks up a win in its first match of 2009-10.
Wellesley dominated the bottom third of the ladder, picking up wins in the seventh, eighth and ninth positions. At seven, first-year Lindsay Rico (Norwalk, CA) defeated Maria Isasi in straight sets, 11-4, 11-9, 11-4. In the eighth spot, senior Lauren Dow (Bethelem, PA) won a 11-9, 11-9, 11-5 victory over Northeastern's Rosa Barney. At nine, first-year Margot Sulmont (Westfield, NJ) was an 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 winner over Myriam Bau.
Northeastern swept the one through six positions to nail down the 6-3 victory, but the Blue had several strong performances.
At one, Wellesley Sarah Odell (Chester Springs, PA) won the third game in a tough 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 11-1 loss to Tessa Martin. At two, senior Ashley Stevens (East Harwich, MA) dropped a close 11-5, 12-10, 11-3 match to Emily Raho. Also playing strong for the Blue, sophomore Alex Hatem (Lowell, MA) made a game out of her first career match, but fell 11-8, 12-10, 11-6.
The Blue are back in action at the Harvard Round Robin on Saturday, November 21st. Wellesley opens play at 11:30am playing Connecticut College. The Blue then play Colby at 2:30pm and then close the day with a 7:00pm match against Bowdoin.
