Wellesley Volleyball Invitational - Final Results
Wellesley, Mass -- Wellesley Volleyball celebrated Homecoming and Friends and Family Weekend by taking the 2007 Wellesley Invitational title. The Blue relied on solid serving (33 aces in 10 games) and an aggressive transition attack to defeat University of Michigan-Dearborn, Bridgewater State, and Endicott College in the round-robin event. The Blue, riding a 14-match win streak, are now 20-3 on the season.
Wellesley was led on the weekend by Alice Cummings (25 kills, .356), Tracy Waldman (24 kills, .447, 13 blocks), Murielle Dawdy (23 kills, .208), and Lauren Rasmussen (21 kills, .350). Billie Briones and Victoria Peng shared setting responsibilities, amassing a total of 126 assists in three matches, while Emily Peters led the team with 47 digs.
Wellesley travels to MIT for a key conference match-up on Tuesday, October 16.

University of Michigan-Dearborn defeated Endicott College 3-0 (30-18, 30-11, 30-21) in the opening match of the day. The Wolves, now 19-13 on the year, finished 2-1 in the Wellesley Invitational, good enough for second place. Outside hitter Jamie Wozniak paced Michigan-Dearborn with 17 kills, while Courtney Provencher added 11. Renee Laidler shared the setting duties with Kelly Dankert, with 25 and 15 assists, respectively. Defensively, the Wolves were led by Chelsea McCune with nine digs, while Kristi Igo and Laidler tallied two blocks a piece. Endicott was led by Steph Wiese, Brittany Phillips, and Brittany Nolan, with five kills each. Casey Ward had 14 assists, and Nolan added 10 digs.

After a key win over Michigan-Dearborn on Friday night, Wellesley carried the momentum into Saturday, sweeping Bridgewater State 3-0 (30-20, 30-19, 30-21). The Blue attack was widely distributed, as Jessica Duff and Murielle Dawdy leading the way with eight and seven kills, respectively, and five players tallying five kills each: Tracy Waldman, Lauren Rasmussen, Heather Mellquist, and Arcadia Paine. Billie Briones led the Blue in assists with 21, while Victoria Peng added 19. Emily Peters once again paced the Blue defensively with 16 digs. Kelsey Collasius led Bridgewater with nine kills, as Alyssa Grimes added seven. Erica Kelly dished out 23 assists, while Marissa Pita notched 11 digs in the loss.

Wellesley's solid all-around play continued into the next match, as they defeated Endicott College 3-0 (30-26, 30-17, 30-24). The win clinched the tournament title for the Blue, who now stand 20-3 on the season. Steph Wiese paced Endicott with 10 kills, while setter Mehan Hall distributed 27 assists. Hayley Janelle led all players with six blocks, and Brittany Nolan tallied 14 digs. Wellesley was led by outside hitters Heather Mellquist and Samantha Du with seven kills a piece. Victoria Peng dished out 17 assists, Emily Peters tallied 15 digs, and Tracy Waldman notched seven blocks in just two games of work.

Despite 18 kills from Bridgewater State's Kelsey Collasius, Endicott College snagged a three-game sweep in the final match of the Wellesley Invitational round-robin tournament. Endicott finished 1-2 in the tournament, taking third place. Bridgewater State finished 0-3 for fourth. Endicott was led by Brittany Phillips, who tallied ten kills, while Hayley Janelle and Steph Wiese chipped in eight a piece. Meghan Hall tallied 28 assists and four aces, and Brittany Nolan added 19 digs. Collasius led the Bears with 18 kills, while Erica Kelly had 32 assists. Elsa Apostli and Alexis Corazzini tallied 20 and 18 digs respectively in the loss.

University of Michigan-Dearborn used its height and power to cruise to a 3-0 win over Bridgewater State on the opening game of the Wellesley Volleyball Invitational. The Wolves, now 18-12 overall, defeated the Bears (10-12) in three games (30-17, 30-14, 30-19). Michigan-Dearborn was led by senior outside hitter Jamie Wazniak and Sophomore middle blocker Candace McPherson, with 10 and 8 kills, respectively. Senior setter Renee Laidler dished out 20 assists in the win while junior Kelly Dankert recorded nine digs and senior Kristi Igo had seven blocks. Bridgewater State was led at the net by senior middle hitter Kesley Collasius who notched eight kills and three blocks. First-year Marissa Pita tallied 10 digs in the loss while junior Alexis Corazzini added eight of her own. Senior setter Erica Kelly paced the Bears' offense with 18 assists.

Wellesley got off to a slow start in game one, but battled back to take three straight games and defeat University of Michigan-Dearborn 3-1 (28-30, 30-22, 30-22, 30-12). The Blue, riding a 12-match winning streak, are now 18-3 on the season. The Wolves drop to 18-13. Michigan-Dearborn was led by outside hitter Courtney Provencher, with 12 kills, while Renee Laidler tallied 35 assists. Kristi Igo added four blocks, and Chelsea McCune chipped in 18 digs. Wellesley had four players with double-digit kills. Alice Cummings led the pack with 15, Murielle Dawdy and Tracy Waldman added 13 a piece, and Lauren Rasmussen chipped in 11. Billie Briones and Victoria Peng shared setting duties, with 34 and 22 assists, respectively, while Emily Peters added 16 digs in the win.
