Wellesley Downs WPI, 3-0
WORCESTER, Mass. -- Jessica Duff (Milton, Abington UK) tallied 11 kills to propel visiting Wellesley to a 3-0 victory over WPI in NEWMAC volleyball action on Tuesday evening. The Blue took the match by game scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-4.
With the win, Wellesley improves to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play while the Engineers fall to 5-9 on the season and 1-3 in the NEWMAC.
After WPI led 6-1 in opening set, Duff led Wellesley back in convincing fashion. The senior only made two errors in 20 attempts en route to posting an impressive .450 hitting percentage. Victoria Peng (Diamond Bar, CA) added a game-high 30 assists while Emily Peters (Temescal Valley, CA) led all players with 14 digs.
After Duff, the Blue sported a balance hitting attack. Alice Kate Cummings (Tallahassee, FL) amassed seven kills, Amanda Duritsch (Troy, OH) tallied six and Samantha Du (Houston, TX) and Casi Schwisow (Bellevue, WA) each chipped in with five. Duritsch and Schwisow each did not have a hitting error on the night while also adding four service aces.
Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) paced the Engineers offensively with four kills to go along with eight digs. Kathryn Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) contributed three kills and eight digs while Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) led the Crimson and Gray with 13 digs. Setter Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) handed out a team-best 12 assists.
WPI returns to action on Saturday, hosting Anna Maria and Elms as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities. The tri-match is slated to begin at 11am. Wellesley is back on the court Friday and Saturday, participating in the Tufts Invitational.
