Blue Volleyball Sweeps Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College women’s volleyball team sprinted to a 3-0 (25-7, 25-20, 26-24) victory over Mount Holyoke College this evening at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. With their 24th straight victory over the Lyons, the Blue remained perfect in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.

First year outside hitter Kellyn O’Brady (Garden City, MI) collected nine kills to lead the way for Wellesley. The guests also received a boost from sophomore opposite side hitter Isabel Custodio (Powell, Ohio), who posted six kills. Senior setter Victoria Peng (Diamond Bar, CA) tallied 18 assists, while sophomore defensive specialist Allison Li (Los Angeles, CA) added 14 digs.

Mount Holyoke was paced by first year outside hitter Martina Kneifel (Oro Valley, AR), who totaled three kills and 14 digs. Senior setter Kateryna Kuc (New Haven, CT) registered 10 assists and seven digs, while junior middle hitter Tyler Protano-Goodwin (Shutesbury, MA) added three kills. Senior defensive specialist Rosa Marruffo (Tulsa, OK) collected eight digs to round things out for the hosts.

Mount Holyoke (5-5, 0-4 NEWMAC) is slated to participate in the Wildcat Fall Classic at Johnson & Wales University this weekend. After facing off against Plymouth State University on Friday at 8:00 p.m., the Lyons will play in a pair of matches on Saturday. They will tangle with the host Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. before meeting up with Western Connecticut State University at 2:00 p.m. Wellesley (8-3, 4-0 NEWMAC) will be off until next Tuesday, when it hosts Wheaton College for a NEWMAC tilt beginning at 7:00 p.m.
