Volleyball Spoils Home Opener for Wellesley
Worcester, MA --- Isabel Custodio (Powell, OH) led Wellesley with 10 kills, eight assists and two aces in a straight set victory over host WPI in women’s volleyball action Saturday afternoon (25-20, 25-14, 25-20). Wellesley is perfect in its young NEWMAC season at 2-0 and 3-2 overall, while the Engineers see their NEWMAC record even at 1-1 and move to 10-2 on the year.
Elizabeth Campbell (Solona Beach, CA) narrowly missed a double-double with eight kills and nine digs for the Blue. Victoria Peng (Diamond Bar, CA) dished out 14 assists, while freshman Kira Jordon (Franklin Lakes, NJ) made three blocks. Vivian Hu (Bellaire, TX) and freshman Hilary Ayers (Coeur d’ Alene, ID) combined to contribute five aces.
WPI was led by Kim Woodward (Clifton Park, NY) who notched 12 assists and a block. Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) killed eight attacks, while teammate Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) dug out seven in the effort.
Both squads return to the court on Tuesday with 7pm NEWMAC road matches. WPI heads to Babson while Wellesley visits Mount Holyoke.
