As a prep player, Hagerstrom was Wisconsin’s High School Player of the Year and a Parade All-American. She earned a bachelor’s degree in advertising and broadcasting from the University of Nebraska, where she graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer. Hagerstrom also earned a master’s degree in athletic administration from Central Missouri State University. While at Central Missouri, she was an assistant coach with the team that won the 1984 Division II National Championship.
