Meetings

Members of Darshana meet weekly on Sunday at 11:00 am in the Meditation Room in the Schneider Center, where we explore the many issues and philosophies relating to Hinduism. Readings and discussions of passages from religious texts, prayers, puja worships, and trips to the local Hindu temple enrich the religious experience. All are welcome to participate in Darshana's events and meetings.

OPENING PRAYER - A Typical Darshana Meeting begins with a traditional opening prayer:

Om
Sahanavavatu
Saha nau bhunaktu
Saha viryam karavavahai
Tejasvi na dhita mastu
Ma vid visa vahai
Om, santih, santih, santih
Om
May He protect us both.
May He cause us both to enjoy the Supreme.
May we both exert together to discover the true inner meaning of the scriptures.
May our studies be thorough and brilliant.
May we never misunderstand each other.
Om, peace, peace, peace.

DISCUSSION - In a Darshana meeting, all members can actively engage in and contribute to the discussion.

CLOSING PRAYER - A closing prayer in Sanskrit is recited. Lastly, members sing a traditional Hindu song called a bhajan while taking turns circling a brass oil lamp at the altar (this ceremony is called Aarthi in Sanskrit).
