Purpose of an Emergency Action Plan
The purpose of this emergency action plan is to ensure that emergency situations can be dealt with properly and efficiently. It also serves as a way to maintain communication between all certified athletic trainers, athletic training aides, coaches, event managers, and Campus Police should an emergency situation arise. This plan should be implemented for both traditional and non-traditional seasons.
Definition of emergency or life-threatening situations
- Any loss of consciousness (assume head or neck injury)
- Suspected spine or c-spine injury
- Cessation of breathing and/or pulse
- Heat illness
- Shock or severe allergic reaction/anaphylaxis
- Open and/or displaced fracture
- Uncontrollable bleeding
