Wellesley Field Hockey Dominates Smith, 6-0

NORTHAMPTON, MA -- The Wellesley College field hockey team posted a 6-0 win over Smith College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams. With the defeat Smith fell to 3-3 (0-1) on the season while the Blue of Wellesley improved to 4-2 (1-0).

Wellesley's offense proved potent as they fired off 43 total shots during the 70:00 minute affair being played on Mount Holyoke's turf due to inclement weather. Smith's afternoon was highlighted by the 22 saves made by Margaret Winter.

Offensively, Smith was held to 4 shots on goal by the Blue defense. Emily Hewitt finished with 4 saves for the shutout. Wellesley received a two-goal, two-assist effort from Callie Lekas while Whitney Reid netted a goal and an assist.  Other Wellesley goals were scored by Kate Cushing (4:17), Sally Scudder (30:34), and Dana Trail (50:30).

Wellesley returns to the field on October 1st hosting Conn College at 4:30pm.
