Offensive Explosion Powers Wellesley FH to Win Over Brun Mawr

BRYN MAWR, PA. – Wellesley used a seven-goal first-half as they rolled to a 13-1 victory over host Bryn Mawr in second day action of the 2009 Seven Sisters Field Hockey Classic.
Wellesley got on the board 35-seconds into the game as Sally Scudder (Delafield, WI) deaked two defenders in the circle before playing the ball to the front of the cage where Callie Lekas (Brewster, MA) had a two-touch goal. Dana Trail (Trappe, PA) and Lekas added back-to-back unassisted goals to take a 3-0 lead.
Natalie Gitz (Oxford, OH) pushed the Blue lead to 4-0 when she connected on a pass from Whitney Reid (Bensalem, PA). The Owls got on the board when Isidora Armentrout (Hong Kong) dribbled the ball in and got a right-side shot into the back left of the cage.
Wellesley added three more first-half goals with one form Scudder and two from Reid. The Blue took a 7-1 lead into the half.
The second-half was all Wellesley as they tacked on six more goals. Kate Cushing (Danvers, MA), Katie Frett (Hallowell, ME), Lekas, Emily Lewis (Weston, CT), Alison Mehan (Stamford, CT) and Trail all found the back of the cage in the second stanza.
Wellesley goalie Sarina Sawyer (Wilmette, IL) posted one save in the victory while her counterpart, Elizabeth Toft (Berkley Hegihts, NJ) stopped 19.
The Blue outshot the Owls 44-2 while holding a 10-advatage in penalty corners.
Wellesley finished the Classic 2-0 as the Owls went 0-2. On the season, the Blue improve to 4-2 while the Owls fall to 0-7.
Named to the 2009 Seven Sisters All-Classic team for Wellesley were Lekas and junior Sarah Mohtes-Chan (Davis, CA). Lekas notched a hat-trick in today's contest and tallied the game-winner vs. Vassar, while Mohtes-Chan led a defense that allowed just two shots vs. Bryn Mawr.
