Wellesley Field Hockey Falls to #12 Trinity College
Box Score
WELLESLEY, Mass. - The 12th-ranked Trinity College field hockey team proved to be too much for Wellesley College as the visiting Bantams downed the Blue, 5-1 on Thursday afternoon in Wellesley. The win keeps Trinity undefeated at 3-0, while the Blue even their record to 2-2.
Wellesley controlled the midfield at the outset of the game, but could not capitalize on early opportunities, allowing Trinity to take the lead in the 8th minute of play. After a steal from Alanna Capasso (Weston, MA), Robyn Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) beat Wellesley defenders to the corner and launched a rocket passed the Blue keeper for a 1-0 Bantam lead.
Williams scored again at 20:57, this time off of an assist from Christy Bradley (Wellesley, MA), giving Trinity a 2-0 advantage. Bradley scored a goal of her own at the 27-minute mark, and added a goal in the final six minutes of the half, this one assisted by Michelle Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) to give the Bantams a 4-0 advantage at the break.
Wellesley broke through in the scoring column with 14 minutes to play, when first-year Allison Robbins (North Bennington, VT) scored after a scramble in front of the net. The goal, her first career collegiate score, cut the Trinity lead to 4-1.
The Bantams would add one more goal in the contest, when Bradley scored off of a rebounded shot to complete her hat trick and give Trinity a 5-1 victory.
In goal for Trinity, Gina Dinallo picked up six saves, while Wellesley's Sarina Sawyer (Wilmette, IL) also made six stops.
Wellesley returns to the field this weekend participating in the Seven Sisters Tournament at Bryn Mawr. The Blue play Vassar on Saturday at 12:00pm and take on the hosts on Sunday at 10:00am. Trinity is back in action at home against NESCAC-rival Middlebury at 2:00pm on Saturday.
