Wellesley Splits on Day One of MIT Tournament

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley volleyball swept Vassar, 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-20), in the opening round of the MIT Invitational this evening before falling to Tufts (25-19, 25-22, 25-22) in the second round. The split leaves the Blue at 10-2 for the season.
Jessica Duff (Milton, Abingdon, UK) led Wellesley in the opening win over Vassar, pounding 14 kills on 28 attempts. Madeleine Brumley (Lafayette, La.) added seven kills, while Samantha Du (Houston, Tx.) and Alice Cummings (Tallahassee, Fla.) chipped in five kills each. Libero Emily Peters (Temescal Valley, Calif.) tallied 18 digs, and Victoria Peng (Diamond Bar, Calif.) distributed 37 assists in the victory.
Against Tufts, Duff once again led the Blue at the net with 13 kills, followed by Cummings with eight, Du with seven, and Brumley and Heather Mellquist (Baltimore, Ohio) with five a piece. Peters and Cummings paced the Blue defense, racking up 15 and 14 digs, respectively. Peng dished out 32 assists.
The Blue return to tournament action at MIT tomorrow morning, September 27, at 10:00, when they face will Williams College.
